A Week at the Cabin

We were lucky enough to be able to spend a week up north after the 4th of July party and it was so nice. You can really start to forget what day it is when you're up there. Everyday has new explorations and fun, outdoor experiences. Living is easy in cabin country.
I went for quite a few long walks while I was there. It was great to be so close to nature. I watched the little creatures do their thing, smelled the fresh air, noticed little things, and got some exercise. It really cleared my head.

Kitty enjoyed her time up there also.

In case anyone was curious, our garden was doing great (hopefully it still is!)

Walker

Walker was a fun place to visit! Nancy wisely decided to have her birthday dinner there so we spent some time strolling around enjoying the town. I'll be back up there soon to photograph a wedding!!
This is called "Chase on the Lake" and it's where we enjoyed a dinner full of Minnesota wild rice and delicious seafood.
Fun drinks on the patio!

Reed's:

We drove around a bit and found a great view of Leech Lake.

Hackensack

On a glorious day up north, we ran into Hackensack to get a giant ice cream cone.

Are candy cigarettes still legal?!?

50 Years of Awesome/4th of July Party

This 4th of July, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of my family cabin. My grandparents, Micheal and Virginia Gooley, built this wonderful place in 1959 and it has been enjoyed and appreciated by so many people. My grandfather and his family and friends built the log cabin, pooling their strength and resources. So much love and care has been put into it through the years. My grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, cousins and now my nieces and nephews and cousins' children have all stayed here and felt the peace of the cabin and the lake. It's hard to describe just how much this place has meant to all of us. Our lives have been made better by having a home away from home to go to: a place where we can get to know each other better, to witness nature's soft touch, and to feel the love that our big family shares. We are all eternally grateful.

Here's the cabin before everyone arrived:
